I’m a Plant Scientist based in Morocco, driven by a passion for protecting our food supply. I am dedicated to my work, using genomic data to create the resilient crops of the future.

My foundation is in hands-on plant pathology, designing and executing large-scale field and greenhouse experiments to screen for disease resistance.

I transform raw biological data into meaningful insights, using my proficiency in Python, R, and NGS data analysis.

My ultimate goal is to apply this genetic and computational knowledge to engineer resilient, high-yield crops that ensure food security and promote sustainable agriculture.
Hello there! I’m Dr. Mariam Amouzoune, a plant scientist with a Ph.D. in plant breeding and molecular biology. I have built my career on a comprehensive understanding of plant health, starting with a strong foundation in crop protection.
This expertise informs my central research question: How can we harness the power of the plant genome to protect our most vital food sources from evolving diseases?
My expertise is built on two core areas of study. The first is quantitative genetics and molecular biology. During my Ph.D. studies at Ibn Tofail University and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), I led projects identifying novel disease resistance loci in barley using genome-wide association studies (GWAS). This work resulted in three publications and taught me how to connect a plant’s physical traits to its genetic code.
The second area of expertise is computational genomics and bioinformatics. Recognizing that the future of biology is data-driven, I have developed proficiency in analyzing large-scale Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets using Python and R.
I excel at this critical intersection, bridging the gap between field-based pathology and computational biology. I translate complex genomic data into actionable knowledge for crop improvement. My ultimate goal is to pioneer integrative “omics” approaches to develop a comprehensive, systems-level understanding of plant immunity. I am open to discussing new ideas and potential collaborations that push the limits of agricultural science.
This collection of projects showcases my hands-on experience translating complex genomic data into biological insights using Python, R, and modern quantitative genetics techniques.
My methodology integrates complex statistical models with high-throughput sequencing data to develop a comprehensive understanding of the genetic basis of plant traits.
